Applying for a VACC PI account

To apply for a VACC account, you need to follow the VACC procedure as explained on the VACC Request Allocation page. Make sure to choose non-UVM-PI from the Affiliation menu and non-UVM-affiliate from the Primary Appointment menu.
Once your account has been approved and created, you’ll be able to log into the VACC. Please read the sections of the VACC cluster documentation under Data Management for PIs. There are quotas on the VACC file servers both for the amount of data and for the number of files.
The VACC staff are happy to meet and discuss what you intend to do on the VACC and offer some tips and/or options for organizing data that will lessen future complications. Contact vacchelp@uvm.edu and ask for a “project setup consultation”.
Before installing software that you wish to use, please make sure that it is not already installed. The VACC has a software catalog you can browse; use your browser’s search to find software package names.
Adding sponsored users
Once you have a PI account on the VACC, you’ll be able to sponsor users to use your PI account. For someone to be sponsored, they must have a UVM NetID.
Most students at institutions other than UVM will not have a NetID. You must request one for each student/collaborator whom you wish to sponsor. The VACC refers to these as “external user accounts”. The procedure for requesting this type of account is explained in full also on the VACC Request Allocation page.

If you are wanting to get external user accounts to use with a class or workshop, you can put a list into an Excel spreadsheet with the above column headings and one row for each sponsored user.
