Bio-organic Chemistry Thematic Group
Group Leader: Dr. Robert Hondal, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Vermont
Members: Five faculty from VBRN baccalaureate partner institutions (BPIs)

The Bio-organic Thematic Group provides an alternative community of chemists that is beyond the structure of each individual’s home institution. All members come from small departments and this Thematic Group provides a group of like-minded scientists to troubleshoot problems, get feedback about grants and research, and develop ways to work together. Eventually we will be more than the sum of our parts by working together.

Since forming at the VBRN Annual Retreat in July 2022, the Bioorganic Thematic Group has met four times. Another meeting is scheduled for December 2022. In each of the three fall meetings, a series of 20-minute “get to know you” presentations were given by two members at each meeting, followed by 10 minutes of questions. Each member spoke about their current research project and future directions.
