VTSU Health Science students present research at the Society of Behavioral Medicine Annual Meeting

VTSU Health Science students at Society of Behavioral Medicine annual meeting.

The week of March 25-30, VTSU Health Science senior students Marti Ahart and Hailey Martinovich and professors Dr. Andrea Corcoran and Dr. Emily Tarleton attended the Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM) Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions in San Francisco. Marti and Hailey, working alongside Dr. Corcoran, presented their ongoing research on wearable fitness trackers. This Vermont Biomedical Research Network (VBRN)-funded work aims to overcome geographical barriers related to physiological data collection in rural areas.

SBM’s Annual Meeting is for students, researchers, and professionals alike seeking to improve the health and well-being of others. Sessions include describing the role of behavioral medicine in today’s change health care environment, identifying recent advances in behavioral interventions for health improvement, and discussing new and cutting-edge research and clinical data on interactions between health and behavior. This experience will serve both undergraduate students well as they move forward in their respective educational careers; following graduation in May, Marti is headed to East Carolina University to complete a Doctor in Physical Therapy program, while Hailey heads to South College to receive her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies.
