New NIH Funding Mechanism – the R16 Support for Research Excellence (SuRE) Program

The NIH SuRE program supports research capacity building at institutions that enroll significant numbers of students from backgrounds nationally underrepresented in biomedical research, award baccalaureate and/or graduate degrees in biomedical sciences, and receive limited NIH Research Project Grant funding. Eligible VBRN baccalaureate partner institutions are Norwich University, NVU-Johnson, NVU-Lyndon, and Castleton University.Faculty with prior experience in leading independent research who aren’t currently program directors/principal investigators of active NIH research project grants may apply for a SuRE Award (PAR-21-169), application deadline past (May 26, 2022). Faculty who haven’t had any prior independent research grant support are encouraged to apply for the SuRE-First Award (PAR-21-173),application deadline September 28, 2022.
